Insights on ingredients and the low down on false claims
Whaaattt!! Bell peppers to jalapeños are actually berries!! The fruit is the reproductive part growing from the plant - and the berry is a simple fruit with seeds and pulp produced from the ovary of a single flower. Typically the seeds are in the fleshy interior of the ovary - but peppers are an exception - with the seeds surrounded by air.
Obesity keeps rising - to over 40% in this years numbers. The obese are at a higher risk for type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease and many cancers - and poor COVID 19 outcomes. Socioeconomics and structural racism contribute to higher rates among some racial and ethnic populations - particularly black women. Positive change starts with facts and awareness.
Diabetes is the most expensive chronic condition in the US. Insulin costs increased roughly 8x over the last two decades! It costs $5.7k per person per year. For type 2 diabetecs, Virta Health has shown > 90% reduced or eliminated insulin while improved their HbA1c. Oh and lost versus gained weight, versus the control group. This is food as medicine!
Which would you choose? Sulfites are used as food preservatives, often to prevent browning in veggies. These only need to be labelled if they are more than 10ppm in the final product or exceeding this level in an individual ingredient - so KEHO wouldn't need to label - but we choose to still go sulfite free, for our natural sun-dried tomatoes and coconut chips!
